There are few occasions when one is aware of balancing between life and death. Miscarriage can be such a time. The sculpture Stiltje, is its form and narrative inspired by the Baltic amphipod. A crustacean found in the seabed of the Baltic Sea and whose malformed embryo is an established instrument to reflect the state of the sea. In humans, malformations in early pregnancy are a major cause of miscarriage. This can cause severe pain and bleeding, where the simple towel keeps the bed clean of stains. Stiltje is placed by the high window of the Library and rests sometimes in light, sometimes in darkness. The sculpture was a part of the group exhibition “Konvex”.
